Absolutely. ASG Glass products are 100% recycled. That is, had our company not purchased and processed the glass used in our products, it would have been discarded in a local landfill. We receive recycled post-consumer glass bottles from various domestic sources including material recycling facilities (MRFs) in Park City, Los Angeles, the Intermountain West, and other locations along the West Coast. We also receive recycled post-industrial glass window scraps and furnace cleanouts from various window and glass product manufacturers in the Salt Lake City area and the East Coast.

Some of our glass is simply ground and tumbled glass with various flaws and inconsistencies common with recycled glass. Most of our glass is re-melted and re-processed to ensure a mostly consistently colored and consistently sized end product. In all cases, the glass products we produce use waste glass feedstocks that can unquestionably be labeled 100% recycled. Depending on the application of our recycled glass products in a given project, an architect or client may claim LEED credits or “green points” for using our glass.

In general, you need 7 lbs of glass per square foot for a one inch depth of glass. That is, if you want to cover a 20 square foot area with one inch of glass, you‘ll need 140 lbs. If you want to cover 20 square feet with a two inch depth, you‘ll need 280 lbs.

We generally recommend a one inch depth for ground cover using size “medium”. For “large” size landscaping glass, you‘ll need 10-14 lbs per square feet given that the glass is 1 to 2 inches in size (and depth). For fire glass, a standard fire place is roughly 2 ft x 2 ft requiring 50 lbs of glass.

For aquariums, we recommend 1.5 lbs per gallon. For seeding concrete counter tops or decorative concrete flatwork, we recommend 1.25 lbs per square foot (resulting in a 70-80% coverage).

We recommend terrazzo sizes #2 and/or #3. We also recommend landscape size small and medium.

Size. Terrazzo glass and landscape glass are the same glass, just in different sizes. The smaller glass is called “terrazzo” simply because it‘s Frequently Asked Questions commonly used in terrazzo floors, terrazzo concrete countertops, terrazzo tiles, and the like. The larger glass is called “landscape” simply because it‘s most commonly used as tumbled landscape glass mulch, as groundcover, as water feature accents, and the like. You‘re free to use terrazzo and landscape glass in any application you deem appropriate. Fire pit users frequently use landscape glass size small and medium as well as terrazzo glass sizes #2 and #3.

Aquarium users use terrazzo glass as a gravel replacement and the landscape rocks as accents. Mix and match.
